Learning Outcomes
The student will adequately be able:
- to develop an understanding of the basic principles and concepts concerned with hypnosis
- to gain competence in the processes and application of basic hypnotic skills
- to gain competence in the management of the trance state
- to gain competence in the use of hypnotic language patterns
- to appreciate the importance of a professional attitude and standards
- to promote a working knowledge of safe, caring and effective practices
- to have an awareness of specific client needs
- to demonstrate a professional approach in interaction with clients, and their appreciation of their role as a therapist in the effective management and organisation of a therapeutic practice
- to demonstrate the skills in taking a client history and appropriate assessment of client needs towards mutually agreed goals
- to demonstrate, safely and effectively, their management of the trance state
- to demonstrate their use of hypnotic language patterns safely and effectively
- to develop and explain appropriately the myths and misconceptions in the use of hypnosis with clients
- to develop their knowledge and understanding of the subconscious mind
- to develop and demonstrate their knowledge and use of imagery skills within their work as a hypnotherapist
- to demonstrate their knowledge and use of sensory modalities (VAK)
- to demonstrate their skills in dealing with abreactions safely and effectively
- to demonstrate, safely and effectively, the use of basic counselling skills in with appropriate data gathering
- to demonstrate effective rapport and development of the therapeutic relationship
- to demonstrate from a variety of hypnotic approaches the ability to induce and deepen relaxation and apply therapeutic interventions appropriately to specific client needs
- to develop the skills and applications concerned with self-hypnosis appropriate to their own needs
- to demonstrate from a range of hypnotherapeutic approaches, a safe, effective and appropriate approach to deal with simple habit control and/or performance anxiety
- to develop and demonstrate their knowledge and skills in observation and incorporation of client responses and unexpected events during sessions
- to develop the skills for terminating the trance state and re-engaging the client in the current time.
